Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (6-1, 3-0 NJAC) raced out to an 18-0 lead in the first 8:12 and cruised to an 81-55 victory over William Paterson (3-5, 0-3 NJAC) for its fourth consecutive win. The Ospreys led for the entire game.
EJ Matthews-Spratley (Cherry Hill/CH East) led a trio of double-digit scorers for Stockton with a game-high 22 points and also grabbed a career-high nine rebounds. Matthews-Spratley shot 50% (9-18) from the field.
Freshman
Logan Mckee (Glen Mills, Pa./Phelps School) established career highs with 15 points and nine rebounds. Mckee went 3-5 (60%) from three-point range.
Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) shot 6-9 (67%) from the floor for 12 points.
Stockton opened the game with smothering defense, holding William Paterson scoreless for the first 9:15. Matthews-Spratley tallied eight points to spark the Ospreys to a commanding 18-0 lead. Stockton extended the advantage to 38-12 later in the half before going to the break with a 40-23 lead.
Matthews-Spratley led all players with 15 first-half points. Stockton shot 5-12 (41.7%) from beyond the arc and held WPU to just 7-36 (19.4%) shooting from the field.
The Ospreys coasted in the second half, leading by at least 14 points the entire time. Mckee led the way with 10 markers while Gaither added eight and Matthews-Spratley tacked on seven more.
All 14 healthy players saw at least three minutes of action in the game, with rookies
Sam Sponheimer (Scotch Plains/SP-Fanwood) and
Cooper Shivers (Glen Mills, Pa./Phelps School) each netting their first career points in the 81-55 rout.
David Martinez paced William Paterson with 18 points followed by Andre Wells and Shane Geene with 11 and 10 markers respectively.
Stockton will be home again on Wednesday for an NJAC matchup with New Jersey City at 7:30 p.m.
