Anguelov and Styer Earn NJAC Weekly Honors

12/9/2024 2:01:00 PM

Galloway, N.J. – Two Stockton University student-athletes who set school records were selected for NJAC weekly honors for the first time in their careers. Senior Martin Anguelov (Cape May/Wildwood Catholic) was named NJAC Player of the Week in men's basketball and sophomore Elaina Styer (Estell Manor/Ocean City) was chosen NJAC Field Athlete of the Week in women's track & field.

Anguelov led the Ospreys in scoring with a 26.5 points per game average in the two conference wins last week. The senior poured in a school-record 45 points in a 105-99 victory over The College of New Jersey on December 4. Anguelov shot 17-27 (63%) from the field and broke the record of 41 points by Carl Cochran in 1997.

Anguelov followed with a strong all-around performance in an 81-55 rout of William Paterson on Saturday, tallying eight points plus season highs of seven rebounds and four assists. He sits fourth in the NJAC in scoring (19.3 ppg) seventh in three-pointers (2.3/game) and tied for ninth in three-point field goal percentage (.348).

Styer, a sophomore transfer, made an outstanding Stockton debut by setting a school record with 3,383 points in the pentathlon at the Lehigh Fast Times Before Finals. Styer, who competed for Cornell University last year, topped the previous mark of 3,369 points by Lisa Chatman in 2006.

Styer finished second out of eight competitors overall with a point total that was fifth in NCAA Division III during the first weekend of the season and should qualify her for the NCAA Championships. Of the five events in the pentathlon, she won two (800m, 60m) and finished second in the other three (high jump, shot put, long jump).

Stockton Men's Basketball (6-1, 3-0 NJAC) will try to extend their four-game winning streak with a pair of conference contests this week. The Ospreys will host New Jersey City on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and then travel to Rutgers-Newark on Saturday for a 6:00 p.m. matchup.

The Stockton track & field squads are off until January 17, 2025 when they will compete in the Gotham Cup at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island.
