Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (14-8, 10-5 NJAC) took a 91-81 victory over Montclair State (15-7, 10-5) in a tightly contested matchup on Saturday afternoon.
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) scored a game-high 26 points with nine rebounds and three steals to lead the Ospreys, in a game that featured seven lead changes and 10 ties.

Stockton started slowly as the Red Hawks scored the first six points of the game, before the Ospreys got on the board. The speedy visitors kept a frantic pace forcing Stockton to match the intensity. The Ospreys trailed for most of the first half until an 8-0 run gave Stockton their first lead of the afternoon 22-19 at the 7:07 mark.

Stockton slowly increased the margin to 37-29 on a 10-0 spurt, with three points each coming from Campbell and
Jalen Collins (Blackwood/Triton). Montclair State answered with a 10 point run of their own to reclaim the advantage at 39-37 with 1:39 left before halftime. The teams settled in the rest of the way for a 42-41 lead for the Red Hawks at the break.

The home team scored 10 of the first 16 points coming out of the break to forge a 51-47 lead with 16:13 left in regulation, but the Red Hawks came back once again as the teams traded baskets over the next three minutes. The squads traded leads over a seven minute span, as freshman
Devon Johnson (Pine Hill/Overbrook) tallied eight points to keep Stockton knotted at 67-67 with 8:34 remaining.

Four points by
Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) pushed the Ospreys ahead 71-67 at 6:53 as points remained hard to come by on both ends. With Stockton leading 71-69, the home team rattled off eight straight markers to expand the margin to 79-69 and a lead they would not relinquish.

A three pointer by
Rynell Lawrence (Millville/Millville) and a pair of baskets by Campbell and Collins provided the boost before a three by Montclair sliced it back to 79-72 with less than three and a half minutes to play.

Four points by Campbell and a pair by Lawrence gave Stockton its biggest lead of the day at 85-72 with 2:14 to go. From there, the Ospreys were able to maintain a comfortable margin to capture the 10-point win.

Gaither added 18 points and tied Campbell for game honors with nine rebounds, while Johnson tallied a career-high 15 points, hitting 3-4 (75%) from behind the arc. Lawrence chipped in with seven points, eight boards, two blocks and a game-high four assists. Stockton shot an outstanding 61.7% (21-34) in the second half in the victory.

Ahmad Robertson led four Red Hawks in double figures with 20 points and a game-high four steals. Mike Jackson added 18 markers with teammates Kyree Henry and Kieran Flanagan chipping in with 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Stockton will travel to Ewing, NJ for the first of two straight road tilts on Wednesday. The Ospreys will face The College of New Jersey with a 7 pm start time.
