Auburndale, Fla. – Stockton University (5-7) used a pair of big innings to outscore Springfield College (5-5) 14-10 for a win of the week in Florida. The Ospreys erased an early deficit by scoring four runs in the third inning and five markers in the sixth frame.
Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) went 4-6 with two doubles, three RBI and a run for his first career four-hit game.
Austin Beard (Toms River/TR South) went 3-5 with two doubles, three runs and two RBI.
Nick Avagnano (Paramus/Paramus) was 2-4 with a double, two runs and two RBI while
Tucker Elder (Ewing/Ewing) tallied two hits, two RBI, one double, one run, one walk and one stolen base.
Stockton fell behind 4-0 in the top of the first but got one back on an RBI double by Avagnano in the bottom half. Springfield made it 6-1 before the Osprey offense sprang to life with four runs in the bottom of the third to cut the gap to 6-5.
An RBI single by Avagnano and a bases-loaded walk to Elder produced the first two runs.
Tim Mastrogiovanni (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) followed with a two-run single. Elder tied it 6-6 with an RBI single in the fifth inning.
Stockton surged ahead 11-6 with five runs in the sixth stanza. Beard provided the key blow with a two-run double and then the Ospreys tacked on three unearned runs.
After Springfield rallied to within 11-10, Nitti brought home Stockton's last three runs of the game with an RBI double in the seventh inning and a two-run single in the eighth to seal the 14-10 triumph.
Dylan Sakele (Rumson/Rumson-Fair Haven) earned his second win of the season, allowing two runs on four hits with five strikeouts in five innings pitched out of the bullpen.
Reece Miller (Toms River/TR East) closed with 2.1 scoreless innings without allowing a hit while fanning four to notch a save.
After a well-earned day off tomorrow, Stockton will play Utica University (N.Y.) on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
