Stockton Holds Off Eastern for 10-8 Victory

St. Davids, Pa. – Stockton University (6-1) took the lead for good early in the third quarter and held off Eastern University (3-4) for a 10-8 victory. The Ospreys trailed by two twice in the second period but outscored the Eagles 5-3 in the second half.
 
Reegan Capozzoli (Wayne/Wayne Valley) led Stockton with a game-high four goals while Alex DeLierre (Basking Ridge/Bridgewater-Raritan) tallied three goals and an assist for four points. Colin Hopkins (Springfield, Pa./Springfield Delco) contributed two goals and an assist.
 
Eastern jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before goals by DeLierre and Hopkins tied the game. The Eagles netted three of the next four markers to pull ahead 5-3 in the second period. Stockton answered with goals by DeLierre and Hayden Smallwood (Margate/Ocean City) for a 5-5 tie at the half.
 
The Ospreys started strong in the third quarter with two straight goals by Capozzoli followed by one from DeLierre for an 8-5 lead just five minutes into the period. Eastern got within 8-7, but Capozzoli scored just 10 seconds later for a 9-7 edge at the end of three.
 
Capozzoli hit the net again just one minute into the fourth quarter to make it 10-7 and the Stockton defense preserved the lead for the last 14 minutes for the 10-8 triumph.
 
Stockton goalkeeper Colin Bernstein (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) made eight saves and Shane Phillips (Springfield, Pa./Springfield Delco) led the defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
 
Connor Bachman and Nick Litzenberger each recorded two goals and an assist for Eastern. Eagles' goalie Ethan Myers finished with 12 saves.
 
Up next, Stockton will host 15th-ranked Swarthmore on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
