Stockton Holds Off Marywood 11-8

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (10-0) jumped out to a big first half lead and held on for an 11-8 victory over Marywood University (3-6) on Friday night. Mary McLaughlin (Somers Point/Mainland) led seven Ospreys in the scoring column with four goals on the night. Stockton set a new single season mark with their 10th straight victory.

After a 1-1 first frame, Stockton exploded for seven markers in the second period. Lucy Sullivan (Lafayette Hill, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh), McLaughlin and Mary Meduri (Brigantine/OLMA) hit the net in the first four minutes of the period for a 4-1 lead. Three more tallies, capped off by another McLaughlin marker, made it 8-2 at the break.

The Pacers rebounded in the second half, scoring the Ospreys 3-1 in the third period to close to 9-5 heading to the final quarter. Three goals by Marywood, offset two goals by McLaughlin and Lexie Jackson (Barnegat/Barnegat) but that would be all the scoring on the evening as Stockton came away with the 11-8 win.

Sullivan added three assists to her goal for a four-point night, with McLaughlin snagging four draw controls. Drew Coxson (Lancaster, PA/Chatham) led the defense with five caused turnovers and tied Lilly Alessandro (Jenkintown, PA/Abington) with four ground balls. Alessandro also scored her first goal of the season.

Daniela Elliott (Wayne/Wayne Valley) made four saves in net for the win.

For the Pacers, Avery Meighan scored three goals, dished two assists for five points, and snagged a game-high eight draw controls. Freshman netminder Jenna Scala was outstanding making 23 saves for Marywood.

Stockton will travel to St. David's, PA on Wednesday to face Eastern University for their next matchup. Game time is scheduled for 4 pm.
