Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (9-9) saw a slim lead evaporate in the late innings and dropped a 15-6 game to Immaculata (13-7) on a chilly Tuesday afternoon.
Tony Gatti (Howell/Howell) and
Nick Avagnano (Paramus/Paramus) led the 12-hit attack with three safeties each. The teams combined for 21 runs and 25 hits on the day.
The Might Macs took an early 2-0 lead on a two-run homer by Hunter Weitzel in the second inning, but Stockton answered in their half of the frame. Four singles scored two runs, knocked in by Gatti and
Cooper Fiore (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove), to knot the game at 2-2.
The Ospreys took a 3-2 lead, but the Macs regained the margin at 4-3 after four innings. The home team took their last lead of the game at 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth when
Robbie Ford (Green Twp./Newton) walked and came around on a double by Gatti and an error. Avagnano scored Gatti with a double for the one run margin.
The visitors salted the game away in the next two innings, plating 11 runs to offset one by Stockton in the 15-6 victory.
Evan Bresnen (Allentown/Steinert) added two hits and two RBI with Ford scoring a pair of runs.
For Immaculata, Weitzel and Ryan Struble had three hits each with Weitzel driving in four runs and Joey Wright batting in six RBI, including a grand slam, in the slugfest.
Stockton will open NJAC play on Saturday when the Ospreys will travel to Newark, NJ for a doubleheader against Rutgers-Newark. The first game is scheduled for 11:30 am.
