Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (7-7) played its third consecutive home doubleheader and split with Manhattanville (1-7). The Ospreys won the opener 6-5 for their sixth straight victory, but their streak came to an end with a 10-2 defeat in the nightcap.
In the first game,
Alexa Panagopoylos (Atco/Hammonton) powered Stockton by going 3-3 with two home runs and four RBI.
Megan Dignam (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) contributed two hits, one run and one RBI.
Stockton spotted Manhattanville two runs in the top of the first but came right back with five runs in the bottom half. After RBI singles by
Caitlin Cetrulo (Caldwell/James Caldwell) and Dignam tied the game, Panagopoylos blasted a three-run homer to left field for a 5-2 lead.
Manhattanville got within 5-3 before Panagopoylos struck again with a solo blast to right field in the bottom of the fifth that was her third home run of the season for a 6-3 lead. Amaya Esparza made it 6-5 with a two-run homer to centerfield in the top of the seventh but
Nerina Tramp (Blackwood/Highland) retired the next two batters to seal the victory.
Tramp collected her fifth pitching win of the season with eight strikeouts. The righty stranded two Manhattanville runners on base apiece in the first, fifth and sixth innings.
Dignam went 2-3 with two runs while
Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) added two hits and an RBI in the second game.
Stockton surrendered four runs in the top of the first and never recovered. Mendick stroked an RBI single that brought Dignam home in the second inning to make it 4-1, but the Ospreys did not get any closer. Esparza slugged her second home run of the day for the Valiants in the sixth inning to set the final score at 10-2.
Stockton will open NJAC play by hosting Montclair in a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
