Glenside, Pa. – Stockton University (7-3) fell behind in the first quarter and never recovered, resulting in a 17-10 setback in a road game at Arcadia University (5-5). A nine-goal run by the home team proved to be the difference in the contest.
Hayden Smallwood (Margate/Ocean City) led the Ospreys with three goals and an assist for four points.
Reegan Capozzoli (Wayne/Wayne Valley) pumped in three goals followed by
Alex DeLierre (Basking Ridge/Bridgewater-Raritan) with two markers.
After Smallwood tied the game 1-1, Stockton surrendered nine unanswered goals over a 20-minute span and trailed 10-1 at the half. Smallwood and Capozzoli began the second half with back-to-back goals that made it 10-3.
The Ospreys got within six on a marker by DeLierre late in the third quarter, again on a goal by
Brendan McHale 25 seconds into the fourth period and later on a tally by Capozzoli, but they were unable to close the gap any further and fell 17-10.
Jared Long (Bound Brook/Bridgewater-Raritan) paced the defense with a game-high three caused turnovers plus two ground balls. Stockton outshot Arcadia 40-27 but goalkeeper Nathaniel Hudgins stymied the Ospreys with 13 saves for the Knights.
Stockton will begin Coastal Lacrosse Conference play on Saturday with a home game against Mary Washington at noon.
