Ewing, N.J. – Stockton University (14-11, 5-2 NJAC) surrendered two early runs and fell to 17th-ranked The College of New Jersey (17-6, 5-2 NJAC) 2-0 in the first of a two-game set between the teams. The Ospreys were shut out for the first time in 25 games this season.
Six Stockton players singled once in the game, with
Tony Gatti (Howell/Howell) extending his hitting streak to 11 games.
Cooper Fiore (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove),
Max Kaplan (Wall/Wall) and
Nick Avagnano (Paramus/Paramus) all reached base twice with a single and a walk apiece.
Dating back to last season, Fiore now has a 49-game reached base streak while Avagnano has a 26-game reached base streak since last year and Kaplan has reached base in 23 straight games this season.
Rob Jeans (Toms River/TR North) pitched a complete game and allowed just two runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks but unfortunately came out on the wrong side of the decision
TCNJ pitchers Jordan Gray (7.2 IP, 6K) and Joe Ferreri (1.1 IP, save) stymied the Ospreys, who left eight runners on base including two apiece in the second and eighth frames. The Lions scored both of their runs on three hits in the bottom of the second.
Stockton and TCNJ will meet again tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. in Galloway.
