Stockton Holds on for 3-1 Win

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (18-12, 9-3 NJAC) survived a tense ninth inning and held on for a 3-1 victory over Rutgers-Camden (21-11, 7-5 NJAC) on Friday afternoon. Max Kaplan (Wall/Wall) and Evan Bresnen (Allentown/Steinert) led the offense with two hits each to help Stockton extend their winning streak to four straight games and pushed the Ospreys into sole possession of first place in the NJAC.

Stockton opened the scoring in the second inning on a Cooper Fiore (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) two run double for a 2-0 lead. The Ospreys added another run on a Bresnen RBI to make it 3-0 after five frames.

That would be all starter Zack McCabe (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) would need as he tossed six masterful shutout innings, scattering three hits and striking out five. It was his third win of the season.

The Scarlet Raptors broke through for their only run in the top of the seventh, but Kyle Cipolla (Westwood/Westwood) came on in the eighth inning to calm the uprising. The visitors tried to rally in the final inning loading the bases with two outs, but
Reece Miller (Tome River/Toms River East) was able to seal the game inducing a ground out to preserve the 3-1 win and earning his sixth save of the season.

Tucker Elder (Ewing/Ewing) made two outstanding catches in left field in the game, including a diving grab in the ninth inning to help the cause.

Stockton will have a quick turnaround as they will travel to Jersey City, NJ for a doubleheader tomorrow against New Jersey City. First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 am.
