Stockton Ends Regular Season with 14-9 Setback

Allentown, Pa. – Stockton University (10-7) finished the regular season with a 14-9 setback in a non-conference road game at Muhlenberg College (10-7), which is ranked 25th in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III poll.

Alex DeLierre (Basking Ridge/Bridgewater-Raritan) led the Ospreys with a team-high three goals. Reegan Capozzoli (Wayne/Wayne Valley) scored twice and grabbed six ground balls.

Muhlenberg put up four goals in the first seven minutes before Capozzoli got Stockton on the board. Five more markers by the home team made it 9-1 with 9:50 left in the second period.

The Ospreys began a rally attempt with consecutive goals by DeLierre, Hayden Smallwood (Margate/Ocean City) and Capozzoli that closed the gap to 9-4. After DeLierre scored again in the last minute of the half, Stockton trailed 11-5 at the break.

DeLierre opened the second-half scoring and then Ethan Fought (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) hit the net for an 11-7 count. After the Mules got one back, tallies by Colin Hopkins (Springfield, Pa./Springfield Delco) and Connor Albrecht (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) brought Stockton with 12-9 with 8:36 left in the game.

The comeback try stalled there as the Ospreys went scoreless the rest of the way and suffered the 14-9 defeat. Stockton goalkeeper Ben Blum (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) tied his career high with 13 saves.

Daniel Friedel paced Muhlenberg with three goals and one assist followed by Jack Taub with two goals and two assists. Mules' goalie Stephen Krug made 18 saves.

Stockton is the No. 3 seed for the Coastal Lacrosse Conference tournament and will host No. 6 seed Montclair State in a first-round game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
