Stockton Downs Kean 6-3

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (21-14, 11-5 NJAC) scored all their runs in three of the fila four innings to down Kean University (25-12, 11-5 NJAC) by a 6-3 score on Friday afternoon. Max Kaplan (Wall/Wall) led the Ospreys on the day with three hits and two RBI. With the win, Stockton fought their way back into a tie for first place in the NJAC standings with two games to play.

The game started as a pitcher's duel between Rob Jeans (Toms River/Toms River North) and Nolan Rowan of Kean. The Cougars scored a run in the third frame and would stay that way until the Ospreys broke through in their half of the sixth frame.

Evan Bresnen (Allentown/Steinert) walked, and Nick Avagnano (Paramus/Paramus) doubled. Kaplan batted in Bresnen for the first tally and after another walk loaded the bases, Cooper Fiore (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) was hit by a pitch for a 2-0 lead. A passed ball scored the third run before Robbie Ford (Green Twp./Newton) hit a sacrifice fly for a 4-1 advantage after six innings.

Stockton scored single runs in the next two innings for a 6-1 lead, before Kean made one final push. Single runs in the last two frames were all the visitors could muster and the final score was set at 6-3 in favor of the Ospreys.

Tony Gatti (Howell/Howell), Russell Halvorsen (Howell/Howell) and Avagnano had two hits each in support of Jeans. He tossed 7.2 innings with a career-high nine strikeouts, before giving way to Dylan Sakele (Rumson/Rumson-Fair Haven), who finished the game with 1.1 innings, two strikeouts and earned his second save of the season.

Kyle Adorno had three of the seven hits for the Cougars in the game.

Stockton will finish the regular season with a doubleheader at Ramapo College tomorrow in Mahwah, NJ. Game time is set for 11:30 am and 2:30 pm.
