Mahwah, N.J. – Stockton University (24-17) was eliminated from the NJAC Tournament with a 4-1 defeat to Ramapo College (29-9) in the third round. The No. 4 seed Ospreys led 1-0 after three innings but No. 2 seed Ramapo overtook them with four solo homers.
The Ospreys rapped seven hits in the game, all singles.
Aubrey Jeffers (Lumberton/Rancocas Valley) led Stockton with two hits while
Brianna Segnello (Mt. Olive/Mt. Olive) added a hit and a run scored.
The Ospreys got on the board in the top of the third. After Segnello led off with a bunt single,
Charli Czaczkowski (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) followed with a single and a pair of Ramapo errors on the play allowed Segnello to come all the way around for a 1-0 lead.
Ramapo jumped ahead on solo home runs by Avery Kontura and Alexis Corra in the bottom of the fourth. Jeffers singled in the fifth and seventh innings but was stranded each time. The Roadrunners slugged solo homers in the fifth and sixth frames for the 4-1 final.
Stockton collected 24 victories for the second time in the last three years with a primary starting lineup that consisted of four juniors, three sophomores, two freshmen and just one senior who will be lost to graduation.
