Galloway, N.J. – Nine Stockton University student-athletes from three different teams received
College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors in the at-large category, which includes sports such as lacrosse, field hockey, rowing and golf.
Lilly Alessandro (Jenkintown, Pa./Abington),
Margot Costello (South Brunswick/South Brunswick),
Emily Deworsop (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.),
Lexie Jackson (Barnegat/Barnegat),
Emily Latshaw (Toms River/TR South) and
Kelley Mason (Manhattan, N.Y./St. Vincent Ferrer) were Stockton's CSC Academic All-District Women's At-Large selections.
Men's lacrosse players
Reegan Capozzoli (Wayne/Wayne Valley),
Hayden Smallwood (Margate/Ocean City) and
Noam Levy-Smith (Margate/Ocean City) were Stockton's CSC Academic All-District Men's At-Large honorees. Capozzoli and Smallwood received CSC Academic All-District accolades for the second straight year.
All six female honorees compiled cumulative grade point averages of 3.80 or higher while the three males had GPAs of 3.68 or more. The minimum criteria for eligibility were a 3.50 grade point average, sophomore or higher standing and either participation in 90 percent or starting in 66 percent of a team's competitions.
Alessandro, a Health Science major, started all 17 games as a midfielder for Stockton Women's Lacrosse. The junior was a key although underrated contributor who finished third on the team in ground balls (37) and draw controls (35) while also adding 15 caused turnovers and four goals.
Costello, a Health Science major, played in all 17 games with four starts for Stockton Women's Lacrosse. The junior netted 18 goals and dealt three assists for 21 points. Costello scored at least once in 12 of Stockton's 17 contests, including five games with multiple goals.
Deworsop, a Health Science major, started all 17 matches for Stockton Women's Lacrosse this spring. The junior totaled 29 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers plus nine goals and four assists for 13 points on offense. Deworsop scooped a career-high six ground balls and added two caused turnovers in a 17-13 victory over Kean (4/5/24).
Jackson, an Exercise Science major, registered 71 draw controls while starting all 17 games for Stockton Women's Lacrosse. The total was the second highest in program history, and Jackson became Stockton's career leader with 136 draw controls in just two seasons as an Osprey. She also tallied 22 ground balls, 13 caused turnovers plus 15 goals and one assist for 16 points.
Latshaw, a Criminal Justice major, and Mason, a Political Science major, each are three-time Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference All-Academic qualifiers. Latshaw rowed for the Stockton varsity eight that earned a bronze medal at the Dad Vail Regatta and also finished third at the MARC Championships.
She was a mainstay in the varsity eight throughout her career as well as a 2023 All-MARC First Team selection.
Mason was a veteran coxswain who filled that role for the second varsity eight and occasionally in the fours throughout her career. The senior served as the coxswain for the second varsity eight that finished second out of five at the MARC Championships this year.
Capozzoli, a Finance major, racked up USILA Scholar All-American, Coastal Lacrosse Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year and CLC Second Team accolades for his play at attack as well as his work in the classroom. The senior led Stockton Men's Lacrosse in goals (43) and points (52) and finished ninth in the CLC in goals per game (2.29).
A three-time all-conference player, Capozzoli finished his career seventh in Stockton history in goals (140) and ninth in points (190).
Levy-Smith, an Accounting major, played all 19 games and excelled in his role as a short-stick defensive midfielder. The senior registered 36 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers while playing lockdown defense. Levy-Smith also chipped in with seven goals and four assists for 11 points at the offensive end.
Smallwood, an Exercise Science major, started all 18 games in which he played for Stockton Men's Lacrosse this year. The senior scored 22 goals and dished six assists for 28 points. Smallwood tied for the team lead with five man-up goals and also grabbed 10 ground balls on the season.
