Stockton Plays to a Draw in Season Opener

Union, NJ – Stockton University (0-0-1) played outstanding defense in forging a 0-0 draw against the University of Lynchburg (0-0-1) on Friday afternoon. It was the opening match of the season for both teams in the Kean Cougar Classic. Morgan Keil (Upper Twp./Holy Spirit) made a career high 14 saves in notching her 13th career shutout.

The Hornets controlled play throughout the contest outshooting the Ospreys 19-5 on the day but could not find the back of the net. Of the five Stockton attempts on the afternoon, Erica Dietz (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) was the only one to fire a shot on net that was turned away in the first half.

Keil made eight of her saves in the first half, including a pair within 12 seconds of each other to end the first frame.

Stockton was only able to get off a pair of attempts in the second half but the defense of Bella Bednarz (Keyport/Keyport), Carissa Goodwin (Wayne/Wayne Hills), Kylee Alvarez (Galloway/Absegami), Riley Schoka (West Creek/Southern Regional) and Erin Lally (Lumberton/Rancocas valley) were solid in front of Keil, keeping the match scoreless.

Stockton will have a quick turnaround when they play in Union, NJ again tomorrow in the second day of the Kean Cougar Classic. The Ospreys will face the University of Scranton at 4 pm.
