Union, NJ – Stockton University (0-0-1) played outstanding defense in forging a 0-0 draw against the University of Lynchburg (0-0-1) on Friday afternoon. It was the opening match of the season for both teams in the Kean Cougar Classic.
Morgan Keil (Upper Twp./Holy Spirit) made a career high 14 saves in notching her 13th career shutout.
The Hornets controlled play throughout the contest outshooting the Ospreys 19-5 on the day but could not find the back of the net. Of the five Stockton attempts on the afternoon,
Erica Dietz (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) was the only one to fire a shot on net that was turned away in the first half.
Keil made eight of her saves in the first half, including a pair within 12 seconds of each other to end the first frame.
Stockton was only able to get off a pair of attempts in the second half but the defense of
Bella Bednarz (Keyport/Keyport),
Carissa Goodwin (Wayne/Wayne Hills),
Kylee Alvarez (Galloway/Absegami),
Riley Schoka (West Creek/Southern Regional) and
Erin Lally (Lumberton/Rancocas valley) were solid in front of Keil, keeping the match scoreless.
Stockton will have a quick turnaround when they play in Union, NJ again tomorrow in the second day of the Kean Cougar Classic. The Ospreys will face the University of Scranton at 4 pm.
