Stockton Drops NJAC Opener

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (2-4-3, 0-1-0 NJAC) opened NJAC play on a sour note, falling to William Paterson University (7-0-3, 1-0-0 NJAC) by a 2-1 score on Saturday afternoon. Aidan Pereira (Spotswood/Spotswood) scored the lone goal for the Ospreys, as all the tallies came in the first half.

The Pioneers opened the scoring at 20:35 for a 1-0 lead. Just under seven minutes later, Pereira took a pass from Thomas Trimble (Emerson/Emerson) and curled in his first goal of the season to the upper left corner to knot the contest at 1-1.

William Paterson scored the eventual game winner in the 34th minute on a header for the 2-1 lead at the break.

The Ospreys had four opportunities in the second half but could not convert. At 64:43 Emanuel Valentin (Kearny/Kearny) ripped a shot that clanged off the cross bar and stayed in. In the final nine minutes, Joseph Carbone (Pequannock/Pequannock) sailed a volley over the cross bar, then Chris Krall (Bordentown/Florence Twp.) had his attempt stopped.

Carbone fired one last attempt with 39 seconds left but it also missed high, and the Pioneers came away with the 2-1 victory

Brady Bartletta (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) made one save in net for Stockton, while his counterpart Luca Misko made four saves for the visitors.

Stockton will travel to Ewing, NJ to face The College of New Jersey on Wednesday for their next match. Game time is set for 6 pm.
