Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (1-1-1) got into the win column for the first time this season with a 3-0 shutout in the home opener against Notre Dame of Maryland University (0-2). The Ospreys scored once in the first half and then twice in the first 14 minutes of the second stanza.
Ernst Louisius (Asbury Park/Neptune) netted the only goal that Stockton would need by knocking in a feed from
Joseph Carbone (Pequannock/Pequannock) at 29:56. Notre Dame goalie Gabriel Gendarme kept it close with a number of stellar saves in the first half.
Stockton benefited from an own goal in the first minute of the second half. Louisius pressured a Notre Dame defender into an errant pass back to Gendarme that crossed the goal line just before the keeper could retrieve it.
Just over 12 minutes later,
Antonio Matos (Hammonton/St. Augustine Prep) made it 3-0 at 58:10 by scoring on the rebound after his initial shot was blocked. The Ospreys controlled the play the rest of the way and coasted to the 3-0 triumph.
Starting goalie
Brady Bartletta (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) played the first 58:57 and
Kyle Birmingham (Mt. Olive/Mt. Olive) completed the combined shutout with 31:03 of game action. Neither Osprey faced a shot on goal. Gendarme finished with six saves for the Gators.
Stockton will play next at Washington College (Md.) on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The Shoremen were ranked fourth in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll.
