Glassboro, N.J. – 25th-ranked Stockton University (11-4, 6-2 NJAC) reached the 100-point mark for the third time this season but was outscored 106-100 by Rowan University (8-7, 5-3 NJAC). Five Ospreys finished in double figures in the high-scoring affair.
EJ Matthews-Spratley (Cherry Hill/CH East) topped Stockton with 20 points and added six rebounds and a team-high six assists. Freshman
Jahmir Payoute (Irvington/Snyder) shot 7-10 (70%) from the field and poured in a career-high 17 points.
Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) also scored 17 points.
Eriq Campbell (West Atco/Lindenwold) tossed in 15 markers and
Christian Armstrong-Thomas (Marlton/Cherokee) contributed 13 points, one off his career high.
Andrew Crawford (Haddon Hts./Camden Catholic) finished with eight points plus career highs of five rebounds and five assists.
Stockton was overwhelmed in the first half and trailed 50-34 at the break. Both teams shot over 62% from the field during a fast-paced second half in which the Ospreys put 66 points on the board but couldn't make up enough ground.
After trailing by as much as 20 points, Stockton chipped away and got within 92-86 on a three-pointer by Campbell with 4:09 remaining. The Profs responded with five straight points and bumped the margin back up to 11 at the 3:18 mark.
Although Matthews-Spratley made it 102-96 on a three-pointer with 51 seconds to play, the Ospreys fell 106-100.
Rowan's Taz Cantey led all players with a game-high 32 points and Khalif Mears tallied 22 markers for the Profs.
Stockton returns home to host Ramapo College in an NJAC game on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
