Wayne, N.J. – Stockton University (9-9, 5-6 NJAC) briefly led by one late in the third quarter but was outscored in the fourth period for a 59-43 setback to NJAC co-leader William Paterson (13-5, 9-2 NJAC). The Ospreys won the first and third quarters while the Pioneers took the second and fourth.
Grace Speer (Estell Manor/ACIT) led Stockton with 17 points and a career-high 13 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Speer added a career-high five assists and a game-high three blocks. She went a perfect 10-10 at the line.
Imene Fathi (Wildwood/Wildwood) contributed 10 points and
Brianna Robinson (Cape May CH/Middle Twp.) chipped in with season highs of eight points and 31 minutes played. Robinson went 2-3 from three-point range and also tallied three rebounds and two blocks.
Speer, Fathi and Robinson scored all but eight of Stockton's 43 points in the contest. A basket by Speer gave the Ospreys a 14-12 edge at the end of the first quarter. Stockton suffered a drought of nearly seven minutes in the second stanza but still led 21-19 after a three-pointer by Speer.
William Paterson then closed the period with an 11-2 spurt to go in front 30-23 at the intermission. The Ospreys rallied in the third quarter and took a brief 35-34 lead on a three-pointer by
BrookeLyn Graham (Paulsboro/Paulsboro). The lead was short-lived as the Pioneers went back on top 14 seconds later.
In the fourth quarter, a layup by Fathi tied the game 38-38 with 7:35 remaining, but William Paterson reeled off 13 points in a row for a 51-38 count with 3:02 left and the Ospreys fell to the Pioneers 59-43.
After two straight road games, Stockton will host another NJAC co-leader, The College of New Jersey, on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
