Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (6-2-5) extended its current unbeaten streak to six games (3-0-3) with a 2-1 victory over Eastern University (7-2-3) at G. Larry James Stadium. A penalty kick goal by
Logan Shaw (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) with 7:14 remaining was the difference.
Stockton outshot Eastern 9-0 in a scoreless first half and wasted little time getting on the board in the second stanza. Just 3:51 into the period,
Makayla Jaffe (Middletown/Middletown South) nailed a beautiful 30-yard blast into the top right corner for a 1-0 lead.
Eastern tied it on essentially its only scoring chance of the game. In the 80th minute, Stockton goalie
Tori Vliet (Marmora/Ocean City) deflected a dangerous shot off the crossbar, but Meiley Shuck tapped in the rebound to even the game at 1-1.
Three minutes later, Stockton earned a penalty kick on a foul in the box and Shaw booted a shot into the lower right corner for the game-winner in the 2-1 triumph. The tally was Shaw's team-high seventh of the season overall and sixth during Stockton's current six-game unbeaten streak.
Vliet earned the victory with two saves as the Ospreys outshot the Eagles 16-3 in the match. Eastern keeper Faith Leake finished with five stops for the visitors.
Stockton will continue a three-game homestand by hosting Rutgers-Camden on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
