Gettysburg, Pa. – Stockton University (0-2) came up short 61-58 at Gettysburg College (3-1) on Saturday afternoon in a game that was extremely close down the stretch after the Ospreys nearly erased a nine-point deficit.
Sophomore
Logan Mckee (Glen Mills, Pa./Phelps School) recorded his third career double-double with 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Mckee was Stockton's leader in scoring and the game's high rebounder.
Eriq Campbell (West Atco/Lindenwold) scored nine points followed by
Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) and
Justin Harper (Bridgeton/Wildwood Catholic) with eight points apiece. The Ospreys did most of their damage close to the basket, with 34 of their 58 points coming in the paint.
After falling behind 13-6, Stockton pulled into a 24-24 tie late in the first half, but Gettysburg netted the last seven points of the period for a 31-24 count at the break.
The Ospreys faced their largest deficit of the game at 48-39 with 8:25 on the clock. Campbell scored five points during a 13-5 run that was capped by a three-pointer from
Devon Johnson (Pine Hill/Overbrook) that got Stockton within one at 53-52.
After a Gettysburg basket, Harper sank a jumper that made it a one-point game again at 55-54 with 3:22 remaining. Stockton later trailed 60-58 with 1:30 left and 61-58 in the closing seconds, when a potential three-point shot to tie was off the mark.
Aidan Mess and Ray Zamloot paced Gettysburg with 17 points apiece.
Stockton will play its home opener on Wednesday when the Ospreys host Swarthmore at 7:30 p.m.
