Union, N.J. – Stockton University (22-9) was foiled in its bid for an NJAC championship by a 3-0 setback to Kean University (29-5) in the conference title match. The Ospreys, who finished as the NJAC Tournament runner-up for the third straight year, were the No. 3 seed and Kean was the No. 1 seed.
Nicole Palmer (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) led Stockton with eight kills followed by
Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton) with six kills and four digs.
Setters
Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) and
Kristen Burton (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spalding) each dished nine assists. On the defensive side,
Helen Murray (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) scooped five digs and
Jalynn Grant (Philadelphia, Pa./North Penn) tallied three blocks.
The Ospreys were defeated 25-15 and 25-11 in the first two sets before making a strong bid to extend the match in a close third set that featured 10 ties and eight lead changes.
Three kills by Palmer plus two blocks and one kill from Grant helped Stockton build a 20-15 lead, but Kean used an 11-4 run to edge the Ospreys 26-24.
Cayley Elena Morrison and Ashley Torok paced the Cougars with 16 and 15 kills respectively. NJAC Player of the Year Aspen O'Brien handed out 34 assists.
Stockton's 22 victories were the program's most in the last four seasons. The Ospreys improved as the year progressed, reeling off 13 straight wins from October 2 through November 4.
