Union, N.J. – Stockton University (26-15) was eliminated from the NJAC Tournament with a pair of defeats at Kean University on Saturday. The No. 4 seeded Ospreys were downed 2-0 by No 1. seed Rowan University (40-1), which is ranked second in the nation.
Stockton then fell to No 6 seed Montclair State (24-16) 6-4 in a losers' bracket game and was ousted from the NJAC Tournament. The team's 26 wins during the season were its most since 2017.
Nerina Tramp (Blackwood/Highland) allowed just two runs on four hits with four strikeouts and no walks against second-ranked Rowan, but the Ospreys managed just three singles against Profs' pitcher Rylee Lutz.
Rowan scored two runs in the bottom of the first and Stockton was unable to mount a rally. Tramp,
Emma Coldsnow (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) and
Alexa Panagopoylos (Atco/Hammonton) each singled for the Ospreys.
Megan Sears (Oakland/Indian Hills),
Caitlin Cetrulo (Caldwell/Caldwell) and
Emily Spencer (Southampton/Seneca) rapped two singles apiece against Montclair State. Sears added one run and one RBI.
The Red Hawks scored five runs in the bottom of the first, but Stockton came right back with four runs in the top of the second on RBI singles by Sears and
Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) plus a two-run single by
McKenna George (Centennial. Colo./Eaglecrest).
Montclair scored one run in the third inning and neither team got on the board in the next four frames for the 6-4 final. Stockton generated scoring chances but left 11 runners on base in the game.
Freshman pitcher
Casey Sokol (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) gave the Ospreys a chance with four scoreless innings out of the bullpen in which she allowed just two hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Sokol also ripped a double in the fourth stanza.
