St. Davids, Pa. – Stockton University (4-3) rallied from a two-set deficit with a stirring comeback to deal Eastern University (6-1) its first defeat of the season, 3-2. The Ospreys dropped the first two frames 25-18, 25-16 before taking the last three 25-21, 25-17, 15-8.
Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton) led Stockton with a career-high 19 kills plus 14 digs for a double-double. Louer also posted a.395 hitting percentage on 39 attacks.
Nicole Palmer (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) spiked 10 kills followed by
Camille De La Torre (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) with nine.
Jalynn Grant (Philadelphia, Pa./North Penn) contributed a career-high eight kills with no errors on 14 attacks for a lofty .571 hitting percentage.
Kristen Burton (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spalding) dealt 25 assists, one off her career best.
Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) handed out 19 assists while
Helen Murray (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) paced the back row with a match-high 19 digs plus three aces.
The third set was tied 13-13 when a kill by Grant ignited a 6-1 run that helped Stockton extend the match 25-21. Three more kills by Grant sparked the Ospreys to a 10-3 lead in the fourth frame, and they evened the match 25-17.
In the fifth set, Stockton held a slim 8-7 edge and took control with five straight points for a 13-7 lead. After Eastern ended the run, two straight kills by Louer closed out the come-from-behind triumph, 15-8.
After seven matches on the road, Stockton will play its home opener against Cedar Crest on September 18 at 7:00 p.m.
