Stockton Pulls Away in Second Half for 78-51 Win

Newark, N.J. – Stockton University (12-8, 9-4 NJAC) outscored host Rutgers-Newark (4-15, 1-11 NJAC) by 19 points in the second half for a 78-51 victory on Saturday afternoon. Three Ospreys scored in double figures to lead Stockton to its fifth win in the last six games.
 
Andrew Crawford (Haddon Hts./Camden Catholic) tied his career high with 15 points and dished a team-high five assists. Charlie Bell (Miami, Fla./Florida Christian) also contributed 15 markers for the Ospreys.
 
Justin Harper (Bridgeton/Wildwood Catholic) tossed in 11 points and Eriq Campbell (West Atco/Lindenwold) tallied nine points plus a game-high 12 rebounds. Campbell reached double digits on the glass for the fourth straight game to lead Stockton to a commanding 46-25 rebound advantage.
 
Stockton led 39-31 at the end of a first half in which each shot the ball well. The Ospreys connected at 54.5% (18-33), but the Scarlet Raiders stayed close by hitting 54.2% of their shots (13-24). Stockton did most of its damage inside, scoring 28 points in the paint.
 
Crawford and Bell led the way with seven points apiece while Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) and Logan Mckee (Glen Mills, Pa./Phelps School) each added six markers. Bell and Mckee each went 3-4 from the field.
 
Leading 41-38 in the second half, Stockton used a 12-4 run to break the game open. Devon Johnson (Pine Hill/Overbrook) sparked the spurt with six points as the Ospreys extended the lead to 53-42. Stockton led by at least 11 points for all but 22 seconds during the last 11 minutes of the game.
 
The Ospreys outscored Rutgers-Newark 39-20 in the second half overall. Bell and Crawford topped the team with eight points apiece while Campbell added seven in the period as Stockton rolled to the 78-51 triumph.
 
Raheem Murray paced Rutgers-Newark with a game-high 16 points.
 
Stockton will play its next two games at home, starting with a matchup against New Jersey City on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
