Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (12-4, 2-1 NJAC) trailed two sets to one and 6-1 in the fourth stanza, but the Ospreys staged a stirring comeback for a 3-2 victory over Montclair State (11-6, 2-2 NJAC). The back-and-forth match saw 28 ties and 13 lead changes.
Nicole Palmer (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) led the Ospreys with team highs of 17 kills and 22 digs.
Calli Miller (Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) produced career highs of 13 kills and seven blocks.
Olivia Magro (Brigantine/ACIT) spiked 12 kills.
Lauren Sommer (York, Pa./Central York) tallied a career-high 20 digs while
Charlotte Haynes (Oceanport/Shore Regional) tied her career high with nine kills.
Ariana Bongiovanni (Charlotte, N.C./Reddington) and
Kristen Burton (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spalding) dished 24 and 20 assists respectively.
McKenna Ritchie (Newark, Del./Newark Charter) scooped 12 digs followed by
Helen Murray (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) with 11 digs plus four aces.
Stockton took the first set 25-22 but dropped the next two 27-25 and 25-20. The Ospreys fell behind 6-1 in the fourth set before rallying to win 25-22 behind three kills apiece by Miller and Haynes to force a fifth set.
Stockton built a 9-4 lead in the deciding frame, but Montclair clawed back within 9-7. The Ospreys responded with four points in a row for a 13-7 cushion, and they closed out the victory 15-11. Palmer led the way with four kills while Miller and
Jaclyn Niven (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) spiked three kills apiece.
Three Red Hawks recorded match highs. They were Bryn Bautista with 21 kills, Lucy Cornelius with 51 assists and Aleena Whitehead with 30 digs.
Stockton will have a week off before playing an NJAC match at Rowan University next Tuesday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m.
