Galloway, N.J. – A pair of Stockon University student-athletes were named NJAC Defensive Player of the Week in their respective sports for the week of February 16-22.
Freshman
Brielle Soltys (Absecon/Holy Spirit) was selected NJAC Defensive Player of the Week in women's lacrosse while sophomore
Charlie Bell (Miami, Fla./Florida Christian) collected the same honor for men's basketball. Both players received an NJAC weekly award for the first time.
Bell posted a double-double with career highs of 18 points and 14 rebounds in the regular season finale against Rowan. In 35 minutes of play, he grabbed eight defensive boards and blocked one shot. Bell also shot 6-13 (46.2%) that included 5-9 (55.6%) from behind the arc in the 90-70 victory.
Soltys had a tremendous start to her college career, totaling a team-high 12 caused turnovers plus 11 ground balls and four draw controls in two wins last week. The freshman also tallied five assists and a pair of goals for seven points on offense.
Soltys set a school record with nine caused turnovers and scooped eight ground balls to go with her first career assists in her first college game, an 11-9 win over Neumann. The rookie followed with her first two career goals plus three ground balls, three caused turnovers, three draw controls and one assist in an 18-2 victory over Mount St. Mary (N.Y.).
Stockton Women's Lacrosse is scheduled to play two home games this week, hosting Washington College at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Marywood at noon on Saturday.
Stockton Men's Basketball is slated to play at The College of New Jersey in an NJAC Tournament semifinal on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
