Ewing, N.J. – Stockton University (16-11) was knocked out of the NJAC Tournament with a 76-66 setback to The College of New Jersey (20-6) in the semifinal round. The Ospreys were the No. 3 seed for the conference playoffs and TCNJ was the No. 2 seed.
Justin Harper (Bridgeton/Wildwood Catholic) led Stockton with a game-high 27 points, the second highest total of his career, plus eight rebounds and five assists. Harper went 8-10 at the free throw line.
Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) produced a double-double of 14 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Gaither finished his career with 1,144 points.
Charlie Bell (Miami, Fla./Florida Christian) and
Andrew Crawford (Haddon Hts./Camden Catholic) scored nine points apiece.
The game was close throughout the first half, with the margin between the teams never stretching higher than four points. A last-second layup by
Eriq Campbell (West Atco/Lindenwold) pulled Stockton within 32-30 at the break.
The Ospreys began the second half with baskets by Crawford and Harper for a brief 34-32 edge that was their last of the game. After trailing by as much as seven, Stockton closed the gap to 50-48 on a three-pointer by Crawford with 12:33 remaining.
TCNJ responded with a 15-4 run over the next five minutes, and the Ospreys never recovered. Stockton was unable to get closer than six points during the last seven minutes of the game, and they fell 76-66.
Nick Koch led four Lions in double figures with 22 points. Matthew Solomon contributed 17 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for TCNJ.
