Wayne, N.J. – Stockton University (16-11) saw its most successful season in nearly a decade come to an end with a 67-57 setback to William Paterson (25-1) in the NJAC Tournament semifinals. The Ospreys were the No. 4 seed while the Pioneers are the No. 1 seed and ranked 17th in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) national poll.
In her final college game,
Imene Fathi (Wildwood/Wildwood) scored a team-high 16 points and tied her career high with nine assists. Fathi moved into third in program history with 323 assists to go with 118 three-pointers, fourth all-time at Stockton, and 981 points.
Zemirah Enalls (Barnegat/Barnegat) notched her 11th double-double of the season with 12 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Senior
Grace Speer (Estell Manor/ACIT) tallied nine points, seven rebounds and three blocks in her last game. Speer finished with 88 blocks in three seasons at Stockton for sixth in program history.
Stockton got off to a strong start as five points by
Haleigh Schafer (Egg Harbor City/Absegami) off the bench sparked the Ospreys to a 17-13 lead after one quarter. Stockton upped the advantage to 11 points twice in the second quarter before a late surge by the Pioneers trimmed the lead to 31-28. Fathi scored eight of Stockton's 14 points during the second period
In the third quarter, the score was tied 38-38 after a basket by Enalls with 3:53 on the clock, but WPU used an 8-2 run to pull ahead 46-40 after three.
After falling behind by 12 in the fourth quarter, Stockton was within 56-52 after a basket by Fathi with 2:16 on the clock. The valiant bid for an upset was foiled by seven consecutive points from the home team, and as the Ospreys fell 67-57.
Renee Wells paced William Paterson with game highs of 29 points and 13 rebounds. Luna Kirby added 16 points for the Pioneers.
Stockton finished the season with 16 wins, its highest total since 2017-18 and most wins in
Devin Jefferson's seven full seasons as the head coach of the Ospreys.
