Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (3-0) broke out to a 4-0 lead in the first eight minutes and went on to an 11-8 victory over Haverford (4-1) that was Stockton's third straight win and the first loss of the season for the visitors.
Colin Wagner (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) powered the offense with career highs of five goals and six points while goalkeeper
Ben Blum (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) anchored the defense with 14 saves.
Wagner netted two goals and
Jack Vandegrift (Jenkintown, Pa./LaSalle College Prep) and
Josh Graham (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) added one apiece as the Ospreys broke out to a 4-0 lead. Haverford scored twice in the last two minutes of the opening quarter to halve the margin to 4-2.
Stockton outscored the Fords 3-1 in the second period on goals by Graham, Wagner and
Justin Besz (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) for a 7-3 advantage at halftime.
Neither team gained any ground in a low-scoring third quarter that saw Wagner tally Stockton's lone goal while the Osprey defense held Haverford to just one marker for an 8-4 lead after three.
In the fourth quarter, two Haverford goals 53 seconds apart cut the gap to two at 8-6. No goals were scored during a seven-minute span that included an important point-blank stop by Blum on a wraparound that kept the margin at two.
Vandegrift netted a man-up goal with 4:18 remaining that gave the Ospreys some breathing room, and they went on to the 11-8 triumph.
Extra man opportunities were key in the penalty-filled game, with Stockton going 3-6 on offense and holding Haverford to just 1-9 in man up situations.
Vandegrift and Graham each finished with two goals and an assist.
Cole Blum (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) won 13 of 22 faceoffs and grabbed six ground balls. Reid Tietjen paced Haverford with two goals and an assist. Fords' goalie Mac Broaddus made 11 saves.
