Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (13-8, 10-4 NJAC) used a balanced scoring attack to down New Jersey City University (12-9, 8-6 NJAC) by a 79-73 final on Wednesday night.
Eriq Campbell (West Atco/Lindenwold) led four Ospreys in double figures with 17 points.
The contest started quickly with Stockton opening with the first six points of the game, only to see the Gothic Knights answer with 10 points to take a 10-6 lead after just 4:23 pf playing time. The visitors tried to pull away but the Ospreys knotted the game at 24-all with five minutes left in the first half.
From there, Stockton finished the half on 14-3 run to take a 38-27 lead at the break. Campbell scored 10 of his markers with
Devon Johnson (Pine Hill/Overbrook) scoring nine points on three baskets from behind the arc.
The Ospreys pushed the lead to as many as 17 at 53-36, then had to weather a storm from NJCU. An 11-0 run over a span of 2:31 sliced the margin to 53-47 with 11:19 remaining in regulation. Stockton was able to push back the advantage to 72-62 with 3:18 left and fended off another late run by NJCU but the home squad was able to hold on for the 79-73 victory.
Campbell filled the stat sheet on the evening in addition to his team high 17 points. He grabbed eight rebounds and dished five assists, both team highs, to go with three steals. Johnson and
Charlie Bell (Miami, FL/Florida Christian) both scored 13 points with
Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) adding 10 markers.
Andrew Crawford (Haddon Heights/Camden Catholic) topped all players with six steals, to go with eight points and four helpers.
For the Gothic Knights, Bakhi Rogers-Robinson scored a game high 23 points, with Donovan Crawford chipping in with a double-double of 21 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Brince Shelton added 19 points.
Stockton will face unbeaten Montclair State at home on Saturday for a 1pm matchup. The Red Hawks are ranked #3 nationally by d3hoops.com.
