Stockton Tops Beloit 4-1

Winter Haven, Fla. – Stockton University (4-3) won for the fourth time in five games on its Florida trip so far with a 4-1 victory over Beloit College (Wis.) (6-2) as a pair of Stockton pitchers limited their opponents to just five hits.

Starter Ryan Zimmer (Audubon/Audubon) earned his first career win, allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts in five innings pitched. Anthony Ungaro (Cherry Hill/Paul VI) came out of the bullpen and tossed four scoreless innings for a save.

Liam Schwinn (West Chester, Pa./Henderson), Yenuelle Rodriguez (Vineland/Vineland) and Matthew McCloskey (Cinaminson/Cinnaminson) accounted for all six Stockton hits with two apiece. Schwinn also stole four bases and scored twice.

Two of Schwinn's stolen bases came in the first inning before he scored on an RBI groundout by Nick Avagnano (Paramus/Paramus) to give Stockton a 1-0 edge. McCloskey singled home Rodriguez in the second inning to make it 2-0.

Schwinn led off the third inning with a single, stole second and later scored on another RBI groundout by Avagnano for a 3-0 advantage.

After Beloit got on the board in the fourth frame, Schwinn and McCloskey executed a double steal in the fifth that resulted in McCloskey scoring Stockton's fourth run.

Ungaro did not allow a Beloit runner beyond second base over his four innings pitched to protect the lead and seal the 4-1 triumph.

Stockton will be back on the field tomorrow to face Mount Union at 11:00 a.m.
