Galloway, N.J. – A pair of Stockon University freshmen were chosen NJAC Rookies of the Week in their respective sports for the week of March 23-29. Freshman
Brielle Soltys (Absecon/Holy Spirit) was selected in women's lacrosse and
Bryant Nelson (Millville/Millville) was tabbed for men's outdoor track & field.
Soltys received her third NJAC Rookie of the Week award this season and Nelson earned his first career NJAC weekly nod. Soltys also was named NJAC Defensive Player of the Week once this spring.
Soltys continued her outstanding freshman season, totaling five goals, eight ground balls and seven caused turnovers in two wins last week. She began with six ground balls and five caused turnovers in an 8-6 win over Marymount (Va.).
Soltys then scored five goals, tying her career-high, and added two ground balls and two caused turnovers in a convincing 17-8 victory against DeSales that moved the Ospreys to 8-3 on the year.
For the season, the rookie leads the Ospreys with 36 points (22 G, 14 A), 42 ground balls, 34 caused turnovers and 47 ground balls. Soltys currently sits second in the NJAC in caused turnovers (3.09/game), third in ground balls (3.82/game) and fifth in draw controls (4.27/game).
Bryant had a strong outing at the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener University over the weekend. He jumped 13.94 meters in the triple jump, finishing fifth out of 35 competitors and moving into 24th in NCAA Division III as well as second in the NJAC and Metro Region.
In addition, Bryant placed 16th out of 26 in the high jump at a height of 1.81 meters and posted a long jump effort of 5.75 meters for 33rd place out of 54 competitors.
Stockton Women's Lacrosse will have one game this week, at home against NJAC foe Kean University on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
Stockton Track & Field will host the Osprey Open at G. Larry James Stadium on Friday starting at 3:00 p.m. and Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m.
