Galloway, N.J. – 15th-ranked Stockton University (22-4, 8-2 NJAC) played its second straight split in a conference doubleheader. The Ospreys dropped the opener to Montclair State (18-12, 5-5 NJAC) 3-0 but rebounded to win the nightcap 7-4.
Emily Clauss (Delanco/BCIT) reached base three times in the first game as she rapped a double and walked twice.
McKenna George (Centennial, Colo./Eaglecrest) and
Cassie Stallwood (Flemington/Hunterdon Central) each tallied a single and a walk.
Casey Sokol (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) struck out a career-high 12 batters in six innings out of the bullpen, but Montclair scored on a solo home run by Katie Brunner in the second inning and a two-run homer by Jayla Vasquez in the sixth frame for the 3-0 final.
Emma Coldsnow (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) went 2-3 with a home run and three RBI in the second game.
Camryn Harry (Swedesboro/Paul VI) chipped in with two hits, two RBI, one walk and one run while George knocked two hits, including a double, and stole a base.
Montclair took a 1-0 edge in the top of the first but Stockton quickly pulled ahead on a two-run single by Harry and an RBI single by Coldsnow in the bottom half for a 3-1 lead. Sokol stroked a two-run single with two outs in the third inning to break the game open at 5-1.
Coldsnow blasted her team-leading third homer of the season in the fifth inning to increase the advantage to 7-1. The Red Hawks scored three times in the seventh frame before Stockton closed out the 7-4 triumph.
Lexi Liquori (Union/Union) improved to 8-1 on the season with a complete game and seven strikeouts.
For Montclair, Vasquez went 2-4 with a double and a run while Sophia Alonso was 2-3 with two runs and two stolen bases in the nightcap.
Stockton will host The College of New Jersey in a key NJAC doubleheader on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. The Ospreys and Lions are half of a four-way tie atop the conference standings.
