Five Ospreys Earn Weekly Awards

Galloway, N.J. – Five Stockton University student-athletes were honored with weekly awards from their conferences for their play during the week of April 13-19. In softball, Alexa Panagopoylos (Atco/Hammonton) was named NJAC Player of the Week while teammate Emily Clauss (Delanco/BCIT) was chosen NJAC Rookie of the Week.
 
Two other freshmen earned weekly nods. Brielle Soltys (Absecon/Holy Spirit) was selected NJAC Rookie of the Week in women's lacrosse for the fifth time this season. Joie Buxton (Galloway/Absegami) was tabbed NJAC Rookie of the Week for women's track & field.
 
Alex DeLierre (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) was named CLC Offensive Player of the Week in men's lacrosse for the second time this season.
 
Panagopoylos led the 19th-ranked Ospreys in hitting (.556), hits (10), doubles (5) and RBI (8) during the 4-2 week for the Ospreys. The junior went a perfect 4-4 with two doubles and three RBI in the nightcap against TCNJ. Later in the week Panagopoylos had a three-hit game, all doubles and three RBI in the opener versus Ramapo. She is tied for seventh in the NJAC in doubles (10).
 
Clauss batted .400 (8-20) with one double, one home run and four RBI. The freshman batted safely in five of the six games last week, including a walk-off single in the eighth inning against Ramapo. The shortstop blasted her second home run of the season in the second game against the Roadrunners, among her three hits. Clauss added three runs and three RBI in the 12-2 rout.
 
Soltys continued her dominant freshman season with another outstanding game as Stockton downed Montclair State in their only contest of the week. The midfielder totaled a game-high six ground balls plus three draw controls and two caused turnovers while scoring twice and dishing one assist.
 
For the season, Soltys leads the NJAC in ground balls (3.86/game) and caused turnovers (3.07/game) and sits fifth in the league in draw controls (3.64/game) and eighth in assists (1.21/game).
 
Buxton had a big weekend at the Paul Donohue Invitational as she won the javelin throw for the fifth straight time this season with a toss of 43.65 meters that ranks seventh in Division III this year. The freshman also ranks first in the Metro Region in the event by more than a meter.
 
DeLierre led the Ospreys with eight goals in two wins last week. He started the week by scoring twice against Neumann and then tallied six markers against Kean. For the season, DeLierre is second in the CLC in goals (3.50/game) and sixth in points (3.81/game).
