Five Ospreys Receive NJAC Weekly Awards

Galloway, N.J. – Five Stockton University student-athletes from four different teams received NJAC weekly awards for the week of March 31-April 5. In women's lacrosse, Isabella Marinello (West Caldwell/Caldwell) was chosen NJAC Offensive Player of the Week and Brielle Soltys (Absecon/Holy Spirit) was named NJAC Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season.
 
McKenna George (Centennial, Colo./Eaglecrest) and Rocio Lucero (West New York/Memorial) were selected NJAC Player of the Week in softball and women's tennis respectively. Elaina Styer (Estell Manor/Ocean City) was tabbed NJAC Field Athlete of the Week for women's outdoor track & field.
 
Marinello tied her own school record with 10 points in a 20-2 rout of Kean University that was Stockton's only game last week. The senior scored five goals and dished five assists. Soltys recorded seven caused turnovers, one off the school record, plus two goals, two assists and four ground balls in the victory.
 
George batted .588 with team highs of 10 hits and six runs while playing five of Stockton's six games during a 5-1 week for the Ospreys. The sophomore also tied for the team lead with five stolen bases. George hit safely in all five games, with multiple hits in four of the five outings. She stole at least one base and scored at least once in four of the five contests as well.
 
Lucero led Stockton to its first victory of the season, a 4-3 triumph over FDU-Florham in the team's only match last week. The senior posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles and a 6-2 win with partner Alexa Arias at No. 2 doubles.
 
Styer competed for the first time in the outdoor track & field season and won two events at the Osprey Open. The junior took the long jump with a leap of 5.63 meters that was a personal best and placed her ninth in the nation this season. Styer also won the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.50 seconds that was 13th in the nation. She finished fourth out of 40 in the 200m as well (26.43 seconds).
