Newark, N.J. – Stockton University (9-3, 1-1 NJAC) collected their first conference victory of the season with a 3-0 sweep of Rutgers-Newark (6-5, 0-2 NJAC).
Nicole Palmer (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) led the Ospreys with a match-high 17 kills and a team-high 13 digs for a double-double.
Olivia Magro (Brigantine/ACIT) spiked nine kills.
Ariana Bongiovanni (Charlotte, N.C./Reddington) handed out 19 assists and served a match-high three aces.
Lauren Sommer (York, Pa./Central York) contributed 11 digs and
Kristen Burton (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spalding) dished 10 assists.
Stockton snapped a 19-19 tie with a 6-1 run to take the first set 25-20. Four of the six points came on kills by Magro. In the second set, four kills by Palmer and three aces by Bongiovanni keyed a 9-0 outburst that gave the Ospreys an 11-4 lead on the way to a 25-19 win.
The third set resembled the first as this time Stockton broke a 17-17 tie with an 8-1 run to complete the sweep 25-18.
Stockton will play three matches at the NYU Welcome To October Invitational this weekend, starting with a matchup against Vassar on Friday at 4:45 p.m.
