Haverford, Pa. – Stockton University (2-2) split a pair of matches on day two of the Haverford Invitational. The Ospreys were edged 3-2 by Haverford (3-1) but then rebounded with a 3-0 sweep of Misericordia (1-3).
Nicole Palmer (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) and
Helen Murray (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) were selected to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of play.
Palmer tallied match highs of 22 kills and 16 digs in the five-setter against Haverford.
Kristen Burton (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spalding) also recorded a double-double with 27 assists, one off her career high, and 12 digs.
Olivia Magro (Brigantine/ACIT) added 10 kills and
Ariana Bongiovanni (Charlotte, N.C./Reddington) dished 24 assists.
McKenna Ritchie (Newark, Del./Newark Charter) and Murray contributed defensively with 15 and 13 digs respectively.
The first four sets were very close, with the Fords taking the first two 25-21, 25-23 and Stockton rallying with 26-24, 25-22 wins in the next two frames. The Ospreys then fell 15-9 in the fifth set.
Magro led the way with 14 kills followed by Palmer with 13 in the sweep of Misericordia. Murray scooped 19 digs and served four aces, while Burton and Bongiovanni dealt 17 assists apiece. The Ospreys took the sets by scores of 25-18, 25-15, 25-20.
Stockton will play its home opener against Ursinus on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
