Michelle Andre

Michelle Andre has done an outstanding job fostering the growth of the Stockton field hockey program as she begins her sixth year as head coach. Andre has led the Ospreys to 28 wins in the last three seasons, a total that exceeds the prior six years combined. The success has extended to the classroom, where Stockton has finished in the top five in the nation in grade point average three times in the last five years.

Andre took the Ospreys to a new plateau last season with a school-record 12 wins plus the program’s first appearances ever in both the NJAC playoffs and ECAC tournament. She was named NJAC Coach of the Year for the first time. Andre led Stockton on a late charge in 2012 as the team went 5-3 down the stretch and closed with a three-game winning streak to finish with seven victories.

Andre’s efforts began paying dividends in 2011 as she steered the Ospreys to a then-school-record nine victories and the first winning season in program history. In 2010, she brought in 16 newcomers and won three games with a roster that included 13 freshmen and five sophomores. The Ospreys notched four victories in 2009 as Andre initiated the rebuilding process just months after her hiring.

Andre was the head coach at the University of Rochester for five seasons from 2002-07 where she posted a 53-43 record and built a program that reached new heights. Andre quickly made an impact in her first season by leading the Yellowjackets to a school-record 12 victories and the program’s first winning season in 10 years. Andre later coached the Yellowjackets to 10-9 marks in 2004 and 2005, with the latter season also yielding the team’s first trip to the Liberty League tournament.

Andre helmed Rochester to a 13-7 mark in her final season of 2006, breaking the school record for wins that was established in her first year. The Yellowjackets reached the ECAC tournament semifinals and produced the school’s first two NFHCA All-Americans. At Rochester, Andre coached 12 NFHCA all-region selections plus one ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American and oversaw a program that registered the fourth-highest grade point average in the nation in 2006. She has registered a career record of 88-102 in 10 seasons as a head coach overall.

Prior to becoming Stockton’s head coach, Andre served as an assistant at her alma mater Rowan University for two years, returning to a position that she also held from 1998-2002. Andre helped the Profs win NJAC championships and reach the NCAA Final Four in 1998 and 2000 and reach the NCAA quarterfinals four times (1999, 01, 07, 08).

Andre was a prolific student-athlete in three sports at Rowan. In field hockey, she was named NFHCA First Team All-American and NJAC Midfielder of the Year in 1997. Andre also was chosen to the NJAC First Team and NFHCA South Atlantic Region First Team three times apiece. She was voted an NFCA Second Team All-American, three-time NFCA East Region and three-time NJAC First Team player in softball as well as IWLCA All-Region First Team in lacrosse. Andre graduated from Rowan in 1999 with her bachelor’s degree in mathematics and later obtained her masters’ degree in higher education administration from Rowan in 2002.
