(Galloway, NJ) - Richard Stockton (3-2-1, 1-0 NJAC) extended their unbeaten streak to three games as they played a sound match and defeated previously-unbeaten Alvernia (4-1-2) 4-0.
Chris Katona (Howell/Howell) scored three times while
Matt Jenne (Kinnelon/Kinnelon) hit the net once and assisted on two others for the Ospreys, who outshot Alvernia 18-8 and generated several scoring chances.
Katona started the scoring just 4:19 into the contest on assists from Jenne and
Joe Stapleton (Forked River/Lacey Twp), to put the Ospreys up 1-0, a lead they would hold into the break. Stapleton's helper was his first career point in a Stockton uniform. The Ospreys squeezed off nine shots against just one for the visitors in the opening period.
Only 3:41 into the second half, Katona broke in alone and tallied his second marker of the game to give Stockton a two-goal advantage. Jenne then scored on a header after
Anthony Procopio (Vineland/ Sacred Heart) chipped a pass across the goal mouth. Katona finished his big day at the 77:02 mark on a pass from Jenne to complete the scoring with his third goal of the match.
Freshman
Bob Millar (Green Ridge/Allentown) picked up the win in net for Stockton, playing the first 81:30 without allowing a goal as he stopped three shots.
Bobby Varga (Toms River/Toms River East) finished up the shutout without having to make a save. Ben Diller made eight saves for the Crusaders.
Stockton travels to NJAC foe The College of New Jersey on Tuesday for a 7:30 pm match. Alvernia returns home to face Cabrini College on Wednesday for a 6:30 pm tilt.
