Stockton Plays to 0-0 Draw with Gothic Knights

Boxscore

Jersey City, NJ – Richard Stockton (9-4-4, 2-2-3 NJAC) and New Jersey City (1-13-4, 0-6-1 NJAC) battled to a 0-0 draw in double overtime on Saturday afternoon. The contest was evenly matched as Stockton held a slight edge in shots, 16-14, but neither team was able to mount much offense.

Each team had a quality scoring chance during the game. In the first half, the Gothic Knights' Aboubacar Diawara fired a shot from the left wing that was denied by Stockton net-minder Bobby Varga (Toms River/Toms River East). Just 32 seconds into the second half, Jared Ruff (Delran/Delran) blasted a shot that rang the post for the Ospreys, but that was it as far as chances.

Both teams clamped down on the defensive side and neither team was able to mount a scoring opportunity during the two extra frames, with the game ending in the 0-0 draw.

Alex Kourahanis (Sicklerville/Timber Creek) had three of the team's five shots on net for Stockton. Teammates Anthony Colofranson (Woodbury Heights/Gateway) and Ruff fired five and four shots respectively for the Ospreys, but had just one each on net.

Varga made four saves for Stockton and his counterpart for New Jersey City Tyler Krychkowski tallied five stops. The shutout was Varga's eighth of the season.

Stockton will travel to Kean on Wednesday for the second game of a three-game road trip. Game time is scheduled for 3 pm.
