Stockton Ends Homestand With 2-1 Win in Double OT

Boxscore

Galloway, NJ – Adrianna Boucher (Hamilton/Steinert) scored the winning goal with 2:48 left in the second overtime to give Richard Stockton (12-7, 6-2 NJAC) a thrilling 2-1 win over Penn State-Abington (12-5) on Saturday afternoon. The win completed a great homestand, giving the Ospreys the sweep of the five straight games in Galloway. The Ospreys dominated play throughout the game but struggled to put the ball in the net. They outshot the Nittany Lions 30-5, with 17 of those being on net.

Stockton got on the board early as Melissa Trafton (Mantua/Clearview) continued her hot play by potting her fourth goal in the last three games. Her tap-in from a Lexi Stasi (Cranbury/Princeton) crossing pass gave Stockton a 1-0 lead just 2:42 into the action. The Lions answered at 26:15 as Brigitta Good picked up her first goal of the season off a corner kick from Victoria Parker, to knot the contest at 1-1 at the half.

The game remained 1-1 during the second half, but not without some sterling opportunities for the Ospreys. Trafton tipped a shot from Stasi that was cleared off the goal line by a Lion defender. Lindsey Thomas (Swedesboro/Kingsway) broke loose on a breakaway with 12:08 left but was stoned by Lions' goalkeeper Margaret Sheridan and the game went to the extra frames.

Trafton had one chance during the first 10 minutes but was turned away as Stockton fired eight shots in the last two periods without allowing a single Lions' attempt. Boucher had two shots in the final stanza with one being wide, and the other a header that Sheridan saved. With time dwindling down, Boucher was able to corral a loose ball and made no mistake on the game-winner into the top left corner for the 2-1 victory.

Stockton goalkeeper Lauren Haynes (Williamstown/Williamstown) earned the victory, making two saves in picking up her 12th win of the season. Sheridan made 15 saves with her team saving two others for the Nittany Lions.

Stockton will finish the regular season on Wednesday night when they will travel to Rutgers-Camden for a 7 pm tilt.
