Stockton Drops Second Straight Game, 5-1

Boxscore

Gwynedd Valley, PA – Richard Stockton (5-5, 2-1 NJAC) fell for the second straight game, this time at the hands of Gwynedd Mercy (7-3) by a 5-1 final on Saturday afternoon. Samantha Barcia (Berlin/Eastern) tallied the only score for the Ospreys, who were outshot 22-8 for the contest. The game was the 200th for Stockton coach Michelle Andre as a college head coach. Andre is in her sixth season at Stockton and also spent five years as the head coach at University of Rochester.

The Griffins opened the scoring at the 17:54 mark of the first half on a Katie O'Neill tally. Barcia tied the game following a penalty corner 1:21 later to make it 1-1, but that was as close as Stockton would get. Brianna O'Connell scored the first of her two goals with 1:48 left in the first half to send the Ospreys to the break down by a 2-1 score.

The second half was all Gwynedd Mercy as O'Connell tallied her second goal, then Bacho added to her totals by netting two markers for the 5-1 final. Stockton managed just three shots in the period.

Goalkeeper Liz Stankiewicz (Freehold Twp./Freehold Twp.) suffered the loss, making six saves. Cassie Kirk (Middletown/Middletown South) and Elisha Hartman (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands) both were credited with defensive saves, helping Stankiewicz in net.

Stockton will begin a three-game home stand starting on Tuesday night when they will face DeSales University. Game time is 7 pm.
