BoxscoreGalloway, NJ – Richard Stockton (8-3-3, 1-1-2 NJAC) broke a 294-minute scoring drought with an early goal and went on to a 2-0 shutout over visiting Purchase College (NY) (5-5-1) on Monday night. Freshman
Chimaobi Ikwuagwu (Camden DE/Caesar Rodney) scored his first career goal for the Ospreys, who enjoyed a 14-3 advantage on corner kicks and 17-10 edge in shots.
Â
The Ospreys broke the scoreless game at the 12:58 mark when Ikwuagwu took a pass from
Mike DeFeo (Sicklerville/Timber Creek), maneuvered around a Purchase defender and chipped a shot past the Panthers' goalie for a 1-0 lead and his first collegiate tally.
Â
Just under 10 minutes later,
Bobby Spracklin (Eastampton/Rancocas Valley) took a corner kick that found its way to the front of the Purchase net. A defender inadvertently headed the ball into his own net to give Stockton a 2-0 lead on an own goal. The early markers were all the Ospreys would need as the rest of the game unfolded with no further scoring.
Â
Chris Giraudin (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) posted his third win and second shutout of the season in net for Stockton. Giraudin kicked out three shots, all in the first half. Thomas Ogrodnick made four saves for the Panthers in suffering the loss.
Â
Stockton's next match will be Saturday as they will travel to Rutgers-Newark for an NJAC matchup. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
