Stockton Wins Misericordia Tournament, 67-64

Dallas, PA – Richard Stockton (5-0) won the McCarthy Tire Laurel Line Tournament with a 67-64 victory over host Misericordia University (4-1). Josh Blamon (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) was named tournament MVP and was joined by Armin Cane (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) on the All-Tournament Team. Blamon broke out with 27 points and Cane contributed 20 points while no other Stockton player scored more than five.
 
Blamon and Nate Pacius (Neptune/Academy Charter) grabbed a game-high seven rebounds apiece, with Pacius also leading all players with five assists before fouling out. Stockton shot just 18.2 percent from three-point range as Blamon went 4-9 from beyond the arc but his teammates were a combined 0-13. Defensively, the Ospreys forced 27 turnovers, which they converted into 22 points. Marcus Harmon (Whitesboro/Middle Twp.) sparked the defense with three blocks and three steals.
 
Stockton shot just 37.9 percent from the floor including 4-12 (33%) from three-point range in the first half. The Ospreys never led in the period and faced their largest deficit at 37-29 before a layup by Cane trimmed the deficit to six, 37-31, at the break. Blamon kept Stockton close with 14 points on 5-7 shooting (4-6 3FG).
 
The Ospreys fell behind 41-33 nearly four minutes into the second half but rallied into a 44-44 tie with an 11-3 run that featured eight points and an assist by Cane. After five more ties in the next five minutes, Blamon gave Stockton the lead for good at 55-53 on a layup with 5:51 remaining. The Ospreys had their largest edge of the game when Blamon converted a three-point play to make it 60-55 with 3:57 to go and they went 5-6 at the line in the last minute to close out their fifth straight win, 67-64.
 
Stockton will open NJAC play with a home game against arch rival Rowan University on Tuesday at 8 pm.
