Boxscore(Galloway, NJ) – Richard Stockton (1-2, 0-1) played their first game in nine days but could not shake off the rust and poor shooting as Rowan University (5-0, 2-0 NJAC) downed the Ospreys 69-59 on Tuesday night in Stockton's first conference game of the season. The Ospreys had 27 turnovers to go with 31.7% (20-63) shooting for the evening.
Â
Stockton started off strong, jumping out to a 7-2 lead with
Lauren Alwan (Cherry Hill/Timber Creek) netting five markers. Rowan answered with a run of 13 straight points to take a 15-7 advantage, forcing the Ospreys to call a timeout. The teams traded baskets until
Taylor Christina (Franklinville/Delsea) nailed three bombs from behind the arc to close the gap to 24-22 Rowan. The Profs answered again, stretching the lead to 39-28 at the break by finishing the half on a 15-4 streak.
Â
The Ospreys came out of the locker room slowly whittling the lead down, scoring 11 straight points and knotting the contest at 39-39. Rowan scored their first hoop of the second half with 14:55 remaining to retake a 41-39 lead. Christina hit another three to give Stockton their first lead since early in the game, but it would be the last time the Ospreys would hold the advantage at 42-41.
Â
Rowan was able to keep Stockton at bay before
Sara Farrell (Marlton/Cherokee) gave Stockton one last hope with a three-pointer to close within 62-59. That was as close as the Ospreys would get though. Rowan tallied the last seven points to end the game with a 69-59 victory.
Â
Alwan led the Ospreys with 13 points while Christina and Farrell each tallied 12 markers. Freshman
Sasha Williams (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill West) scored seven points, all in the second half. She also pulled down a career-high and game-high 20 rebounds to go with five blocked shots. Farrell dished a game-high six assists for Stockton.
