Stockton Bounced from NJAC Playoffs by #12 TCNJ

Boxscore

Ewing, NJ – No. 3 seed Richard Stockton (14-8) was eliminated from the NJAC tournament with a 2-0 defeat at No. 2 seed College of New Jersey (15-2), which is ranked 12th in the nation, in the league semifinals. Stockton goalkeeper Lauren Haynes (Williamstown/Williamstown) made three saves but the Lions scored once in each half.

The match was scoreless for the first 42 minutes of a defensive-minded first half that saw the teams record only three shots apiece. Haynes stopped TCNJ's only shot on goal during that span and Stockton was just 2:53 away from getting to half at 0-0 before the Lions broke through on a goal by Gina Caprara.

The Stockton deficit grew to two goals only 7:37 into the second half as Christine Levering added an insurance goal for TCNJ. The Ospreys fired three shots in the second half, but all three went for naught and they were knocked out of the NJAC tournament with a 2-0 setback.

Stockton was outshot 11-6 for the game and the teams each registered four corner kicks. Adrianna Boucher (Hamilton/Steinert) and Keara Homan (Manasquan/Manasquan) accounted for Stockton's only two shots on goal with one apiece. The Ospreys played a ranked opponent for the fifth time this season and were shut out for the eighth time.

Stockton is expected to receive a berth in the ECAC Metro tournament next week. The ECAC bracket will be announced on November 10 and the tourney begin on November 12.
