Stockton Wins Third Straight Game, 65-61

Boxscore

Galloway, NJ – Richard Stockton (4-2, 2-1 NJAC) overcame a scoreless stretch of over seven minutes in the opening half and rebounded nicely for a tough 65-61 win over William Paterson (5-3, 3-1 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Sasha Williams (Cherry Hill/CH West) led the Osprey defense with career highs of 10 blocks and three steals. Stockton's defense was excellent, holding the Pioneers to just 29.3% (22-75) shooting for the game.

Stockton started out on fire, shooting 7-10 in jumping out to an early 17-7 lead with 12:15 remaining in the opening period. The Ospreys then suffered through a drought without scoring of almost seven-and-a-half minutes while the Pioneers rattled off 16 straight points to take a 23-17 lead with 4:36 left. Stockton battled back to close the stanza at 29-27 as Sara Farrell (Marlton/Cherokee) hit a three-pointer to end the first 20 minutes. Farrell was a perfect 3-3 from behind the arc for the game.

The Ospreys turned things around during the second half as they began the period on a 10-2 run to retake the lead that they would never relinquish at 37-31. The advantage grew to as many as 13 points before William Paterson rallied one last time. They closed to within two points twice in the last 1:59 but could not get the go-ahead score. Foul shots by Jazmin Palma (North Bergen/North Bergen), Lauren Alwan (Winslow/Timber Creek) and Taylor Christina (Franklinville/Delsea) offset a Jackie Rodriguez three and set the final score of 65-61

Farrell and Alex Nardoza (Fords/Woodbridge) led the way with 15 and 12 points respectively as the only Ospreys in double figures. Williams added seven points and a team-high nine rebounds. Nardoza and Lauren Bowler (Little Silver/Red Bank Regional) dished four assists each, with Bowler backing up Williams with eight rebounds.

Rodriguez topped the Pioneers with 19 points, including 16 after the break. Julie Rovito added 10 markers while teammate Ashley Marfo pulled down nine boards and pilfered a game-high four steals.

Stockton will start a six-game road swing beginning on Monday, as they will travel to Gwynedd Mercy for a 7 pm start.
