Stockton Blows Rutgers-Camden Away, 74-60

(Camden, NJ) – Richard Stockton (19-4, 13-3 NJAC) scored the first five points of the game and never looked back, leading from start to finish in a 74-60 triumph over Rutgers-Camden (4-19, 2-14) that was the Ospreys' fourth straight win, all coming in a seven-day span. Josh Blamon (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) led Stockton with 26 points followed by Nnamdi Usuwa (Avenel/Colonia) with 20 markers, all in the second half.

Blamon and Usuwa became the first Stockton teammates to reach 20 points in the same game since the duo accomplished the feat in the season opener. Usuwa shot 10-13 from the field (76.9%) and also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season.  Kevin Johnson (Paulsboro/Paulsboro) tossed in 13 points, his highest total since December 7, and also tallied seven rebounds, a game-high six assists and three steals. Only four Stockton players attempted free throws in the game, but the quartet went a combined 19-22 (86.4%) on the night.

Blamon scored the first five points of the game on a three-pointer and layup, then followed Rutgers-Camden's first basket with three free throws to give himself an early 8-2 lead over the Scarlet Raptors. Blamon later scored 11 more points and Rich Suhr (Toms River/TR East) netted the other four during a 15-4 run that put Stockton ahead 26-12.

The Ospreys stretched the lead to 18 twice before ending the half with a 38-21 advantage. Blamon blistered Rutgers-Camden for 25 first-half points followed by Johnson with seven and Suhr with five as the trio accounted for all but one point, a Mike Perry (Mt. Laurel/Peddie School) free throw, during the first stanza.

After going scoreless in the first half, the second frame belonged to Usuwa as he carried the Stockton offense with 20 of his team's 36 points after the break. The Ospreys let their lead slip to nine points twice before regaining control with a 12-6 spurt highlighted by Carlton Whitehead's (Ewing/Life Center) only five points of the night. Stockton led by double figures for the last 11 minutes and coasted to their fourth consecutive win, 74-60.

Stockton will host Ramapo on Saturday at 3 pm in the final regular season home game for the Ospreys. A victory would give Stockton their third consecutive 20-win season and sixth in the last seven years.
